Job description

A good Layout Artist should have a strong eye for composition and cinematography, understand how a shot should tell a story, and be comfortable working within a collaborative VFX pipeline. Artistic judgment is as important as technical 3D knowledge.

Responsibilities:

  1. Create and develop 3D layouts based on storyboards, concept art, and director/supervisor requirements.

  2. Establish camera composition, framing, lens, perspective, and camera movement.

  3. Set up and position CG characters, environments, props, and other assets within the scene.

  4. Match live-action camera data and solve camera movement where required.

  5. Ensure correct scale, continuity, spatial relationships, and composition between assets.

  6. Work closely with Animation, Modeling, Environment, FX, Lighting, and Compositing teams.

  7. Prepare scenes and shots according to the production pipeline and technical specifications.

  8. Incorporate feedback from the Layout Supervisor, CG Supervisor, Director, and other stakeholders.

  9. Maintain shot continuity across sequences.

  10. Troubleshoot basic scene, camera, and asset-related issues.

  11. Ensure shots are properly organized and handed over to downstream departments.

Job requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of industry experience.

  • Strong understanding of camera language, cinematography, composition, perspective, and staging.

  • Good knowledge of 3D space and visual storytelling.

  • Proficiency in software such as Maya; knowledge of Houdini, Blender, or other relevant tools can be an advantage.

  • Understanding of camera tracking and matchmove principles.

  • Ability to interpret storyboards and translate 2D references into 3D scenes.

  • Good understanding of VFX production pipelines.

  • Strong attention to detail and continuity.

  • Ability to work under deadlines and handle multiple shots/sequences.

  • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to understand and implement Supervisor/Director feedback accurately.

  • Good communication and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to work efficiently under tight production deadlines.

  • Knowledge of Python or scripting would be an added advantage.

  • Experience working with ShotGrid, ftrack, or similar production-management tools would be

Desirable Skills:

  • Currently based in Mumbai

  • Join immediately

  • Knowledge of rigging and character/prop setup.

  • Familiarity with visual effects pipelines and workflows.

  • Creative problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
